Principal Notes

Dear Parents,

On Saturday, twenty-two schools from the San Gabriel Valley competed at the annual Archdiocesan Academic Decathlon held at Damien High School. St. Philip sent two teams. One of our teams took FIRST PLACE! Following are the results for both teams:

Red Team

1st Place Overall

1st Place Logic

1st Place Math

1st place Current Events

2nd Place Superquiz

3rd place Fine Arts

3rd place Literature

White Team

2nd place Literature

3rd place Science

3rd place Logic

The entire Red Team will compete at Nationals next Friday! I am proud of our students for this amazing accomplishment. They have studied for months to achieve these results. I am also proud of all of our teachers who give so much, daily, to educate our students.

As you may know, Mrs. Medina, our Junior High English Language Arts (ELA) teacher is expecting her first baby soon. Her last day teaching will be April 2. I’ve hired Mrs. Tavera, one of our amazing substitutes, to replace her, while she is on leave until the end of the school year. Mrs. Tavera has years of experience, having formerly taught at St. Rita. She has been subbing for us for awhile now and she has met with Mrs. Medina numerous times so that she will be ready to seamlessly transition into ELA. I am grateful to her for agreeing to teach in the junior high department and hope that you welcome her.

Be sure to set aside time for the Town Hall meeting that will take place next week, on Wednesday, March 18, at 6 pm via Zoom. We’ll be talking about the budget and tuition for next year, curriculum updates, and the TK move along with other facilities plans. I’ll send the link next Monday.

Have a good week and please, pray for peace.

Jennifer
