Before Thanksgiving, our 8th graders hosted parishioners and grandparents for the annual Senior Citizen’s Luncheon. A delicious Thanksgiving meal was served. Thank you to all our guests for coming! ❤️

As a Catholic school, our students share a culture of service. On Wednesday, November 13th, our students came together to serve our community for our 2nd annual Christian Service Day. Our 3rd graders collected baby items and packaged them beautifully in boxes to be delivered to the San Gabriel Pregnancy Help Center. These will be passed out to families who need assistance with newborns. In the Spring, the 3rd graders plan on organizing a school-wide sock and coffee drive to benefit those in need at Union Station in Pasadena.

On Wednesday, November 13th, our students came together to serve our community for our 2nd annual Christian Service Day. 2nd grade helped the Assisting Children Ministry, which is part of our parish, by collecting Halloween candy. They packaged the candy into baggies and then it is distributed to children in Mexico for Christmas.

Our Kindergartners worked with the 5th graders making sack lunches to be passed out at Union Station Homeless Services. They decorated the lunch bags with drawings, stickers, and inspiration. The lunches were then delivered by 2 of our students! A representative from Union Station spoke with the 5th graders to explain the services they provide and how they help the Pasadena community.

This morning we welcomed fellow Falcon, Giulia Arcuri O'Sullivan, '08, who wrote the book, "Popper Puffin". Giulia read the book to our TK-3rd graders. She also answered urgent questions from the students such as, "what gives Santa his magic?" We love our Falcons! The Student Council Halloween games were fun as usual. We especially loved doing the Monster Mash!

Books were on the menu for 4th and 5th grade! They held a book tasting where each student read a part of a book for 5 minute then wrote their thoughts on it. They tried different genres of books and had a delicious treat at the end! 📚📖

Our Flag Football teams received reversible practice jerseys from the @rams team! Thank you to Coach Weatherall for coordinating everything to make this possible! Thank you @rams for donating the jerseys! The children were so excited to be able to wear these and show their @rams spirit! 💙💛

October is almost over, but we didn't let it pass us by without celebrating the month of the Rosary. On Wednesday, the school families came together to pray the Rosary. From Kindergarten to 8th grade, everyone started their day in loving meditative prayer.

Over the past few weeks, local high schools have been visiting our 8th graders. We love seeing our alums as they talk about their high schools! ❤️

Thank you to Pasadena Fire Station 34 for having our Kindergartners visit and and learn what it takes to be a fire fighter!

Skills can be practiced, skills can be coached, but it is important to remember that skills do take time to develop. Executive skills are especially developmental. The best gift we can give our Junior High students is introducing them to themselves: who they are as learners, developing an awareness of their learning preferences, and how their brains work.  By partnering with Anna Hasbun, Academic Life Coach and Owner/Director of Stepping Stones to Learning, our students develop their knowledge and application of Executive Function Skills such as time management, self-monitoring, problem solving, and emotional regulation.  Studies show that success in life is much more dependent on executive skills than IQ and we are preparing our students for a future of success at St. Philip and beyond!

The St. Philip Golf team competed in the CYO Fall tournament this past Saturday at Arroyo Seco Golf course. The team finished first place 🥇 overall out of 35 schools. They’ve been having fun learning and enjoying the game ⛳️🏌️‍♂️🏌️‍♀️😃. Go Falcons!

Our 1927 Society members support the three major PTO events: Fall Fest, Jogathon, and the Red Tie Benefit. The Fall Fest is our first event on October 19th from 4-9:30 we will see you all there! We are grateful for this support to St. Philip the Apostle School!

Did you know our 8th graders take a Capstone project class? Students will investigate American identity through the lens of the school’s Mission Statement and Philosophy. Building on the Social Studies, Language Arts, and Religion curricula, students will explore the American values of democracy, justice, and liberty.

Our 8th grade student council members were up before the sun today to attend the 19th Annual Los Angeles Catholic Prayer Breakfast at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angeles. The day started with mass and a rosary followed by a delicious breakfast on the Cathedral patio. We were joined by Father Tony and Father Mike Schmitz was the Keynote speaker. It is wonderful to run into our alums at such a beautiful event. Thank you to everyone who made this morning so special! @lacatholics @catholicedla

We love our falcon families! Yesterday, we welcomed our new families during a special mass where they received a blessing. Following the mass was a welcome reception. We are grateful for all the new families who joined our school this year!

Happy Dot Day!!! 🔴 Kinder and 1st grade celebrated the day! The Dot is the story of a caring teacher who dares a doubting student to trust in her own abilities by being brave enough to “make her mark”. What begins with a small dot on a piece of paper becomes a breakthrough in confidence and courage, igniting a journey of self-discovery and sharing, which has gone on to inspire countless children and adults around the globe.

The passing of Fr. Joe has hit our hearts hard. For 20 years, Fr. Joe was our Pastor and he never failed to be supportive of the school, the teachers, and the students. He went on to lead us in building Holy Angel Hall, the new school building, and then the TK. For all these years, he has been a huge part of our lives. As pastor, he led hundreds of school masses, blessed the students and faculty, officiated First Communions, celebrated May Crownings and graduations, and baptized many of our current and past students. Let’s hold these memories of him, his love for us, and his unwavering support in our hearts forever. He is now at peace with God. Fr. Joe's funeral mass will be on Wednesday, October 2, at 10 a.m. The school will be closed on this day so staff can attend the funeral.

Get up here! Let's dance 💃🕺 In their 8th grade year, students take a dance class. They explore different dances and rhythms from Latin to commercial dance styles. As the year progresses, they learn how dance can help with self-expression and confidence. It's fun to see their growth over the course of a year that culminates in our decades long tradition of the 8th grade dance performance at the Spring Concert.

Today was a very special day for the Class of 2025, they received their 8th grade sweatshirts! This is a St. Philip tradition. Each class votes on a design and they get the privilege to wear it all year. ❤️

It's back to school week, and we thought we would highlight some of the unique classes that are offered to our Jr. High students. Did you know St. Philips has a STEM lab? It utilizes LEGO® Education kits for 6th and 7th grade students to learn through play—by actively doing, exploring, and experimenting. This approach empowers them to become creative and engaged life-long learners, which is essential for success in their future careers and lives. Throughout the year, students will: define problems with constraints and criteria, optimize solutions through systematic testing, use and seek failure as a tool to improve their solutions, pose meaningful and answerable scientific questions and use data and evidence to support their conclusions. We can't wait to see what the 6th and 7th graders do this year!
