Christmas Ornaments

In December, the school families of St. Philip the Apostle School came together for a delightful family activity, embracing the spirit of the holiday season. Our students gathered to learn and celebrate the story of St. Nicholas, a figure synonymous with generosity and kindness.

The activity started with a video about St. Nicholas, which provided insights into his life and the traditions that surround this beloved saint. Following the video, the families made ornaments for the parish Christmas tree.

This simple family activity helps remind our students of the joy and peace of our holiday season.

St. Nicholas Day

As the crisp air of December rolls in, the students of St. Philip the Apostle School eagerly anticipate a beloved annual tradition. St. Nicholas Day, a festivity rooted in honoring the generosity of St. Nicholas, takes on a special meaning within the walls of our school.

On St. Nicholas Day, a wave of excitement sweeps through the corridors. Our students eyes sparkle with joy and anticipation. In line with our long-standing tradition, every student participates in a simple yet heartwarming ritual: leaving a shoe outside the classroom.

Then the magic happens. St. Nicholas, the epitome of kindness and giving, visits the school in the quiet hours. In each shoe, he leaves a "gift" - a token of love and a reminder of the spirit of giving that defines this season.

These "gifts" are more than just items; they are symbols of the caring and community spirit that St. Philip the Apostle

Falcon cross country ran their hearts out at the Mt. Sac invite! Top 15 finishes by one of our 4th grade girls and one of our 5th grade boys. The Boys 5th Grade and Girls 3rd/4th Grade team both finished 3rd! Go Falcons!!!!!

Damien High School Math Competition

On Saturday 3/18/23, a team of 7th and 8th graders participated in the Damien Math Competition. Both 7th grade and 8th grade teams took 3rd place in the Super Quiz Bowl. Additionally, individual students took 1st and 2nd place in Algebra, and 2nd and 3rd place in the Math Medley. This competition is with schools from all over the archdiocese and our students represented us very well. Great job Falcons!

Academic Decathlon Team 2023

Congratulations to the Academic Decathlon Team! On Saturday 3/4 they competed against 20 other school teams from our region. The students have worked really hard since last summer preparing for this competition. The White Team placed 3rd overall and also received 2nd in Logic. The Red Team placed 3rd in SuperQuiz and had 2 members place in individual subjects; one student placed 2nd in Mathematics and one placed 3rd in English.

Boys' Varsity Basketball in CYO Playoffs!

Our Boys' Varsity Basketball team were victorious in Round 1 of the CYO Open Division Playoffs. In round 2 they fell in a hard fought game with Santa Monica Prep. We are very proud of them!

Feast of St. Nicholas

On December 6, 2022 we celebrated the Feast of St. Nicholas. This is an annual tradition here at St. Philip the Apostle School. The students leave one shoe outside of their classroom. Then while they are learning about St. Nicholas, he stops by our school and leaves an tangerine and candy cane in each of their shoes!

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas at St. Philip the Apostle School! As we begin this season of Advent and move into Christmas, we are looking forward to some wonderful events! We have our Feast of St. Nicholas tradition for the students. Our Drama Club will be presenting A Miracle on 34th Street. Our parish tree lighting ceremony will take place on Sat 12/3. And we will have our annual Christmas Worship Service where our students sing and read and remind us what this season means.

Los Angeles Catholic Prayer Breakfast

On Tuesday, September 20, 2022, our student council attend the LA Catholic Prayer Breakfast. This is an event that celebrates our faith and prayer. It begins at 6:30 AM with praying the Rosary. Our students then enjoyed a wonderful breakfast and listened to keynote speakers. It is a great event that brings Catholics from all over the diocese together. We are proud our student council attended and represented us.

St. Philip the Apostle School held our Annual Bookfair in September. This annual fundraiser promotes and celebrates our love of literature. It was a groovy event and the students had a great time visiting! Two highlights were our morning "Muffins with Mom" and "Donuts with Dad" day!

This week we had our first Familty Activity of the year.

Every student at the school has a school family. The school family is a student from each grade and a faculty member. You stay with your family for the entire time you are at St. Philip the Apostle.

Each month the family gathers and completes and activity together.

School families are one of our favorite things here at school. Our students love gathering with their families. We love watching students who were kindergartners one day becoming 8th graders leading their families.

May Crowning and Grandparents and Special Friends Day

On Friday, May 6, we celebrated our annual May Crowning and Grandparents and Special Friends Day.

This is one of our favorite days at St. Philip the Apostle School. Our 8th graders participate and lead a beautiful May Crowning service. Students bring their grandparents or special friends to school to visit our campus.

It is a great day and we love sharing our school with our community.

First Communion 2022

Our second grade class, as well a few other students in the school, made their First Communion on Sat 5/8. We were so very proud of them!

They followed this by celebrating their first time receiving Communion at a school Mass!

These moments are the reasons we as a Catholic School exist.

Jog-A-Thon 2022!

Our Annual Jog-a-Thon was held on Friday, Feb 25, 2022!

After a bit of a hiatus due to Covid 19 restrictions, we were thrilled to be able to have our students jogging again. And they were thrilled to be out jogging!

It was a great day and we raised money for our school.
